Guidelines on Inoperative Accounts & Unclaimed Deposits

Guidelines on Inoperative Accounts / Unclaimed Deposits (10 Years & Above)

As per RBI Guidelines, the outstanding credit amount of any account in India with any bank which has not been operated upon for a period of ten years, or any deposit or any amount remaining unclaimed for more than ten years, shall be transferred to the Depositor Education and Awareness (DEA) Fund of the Reserve Bank of India on the last working day of the subsequent month.

The Reserve Bank of India has launched a Centralised Web Portal उद्गम UDGAM (https://udgam.rbi.org.in/unclaimed-deposits/#/login) for the public to facilitate and make it easier for them to search their unclaimed deposits across multiple banks in one place.

The Customer / Survivor / Legal Heir / Authorized Signatories, as the case may be, may lodge a claim for the unclaimed deposit to activate the account or receive payment.

To reactivate an account, customers may visit their home branch with all necessary KYC documents. If the customer wishes to activate and continue operations in the account, the branch will accept a specific request and reactivate the account by obtaining proper KYC. In case of final claims and closure of the account, the branch will process the request accordingly.
